Elmin has always taken an interest in technical engineering, which led to his achievement of a Masters in Electrical Engineering with a specialisation in Nanotechnology. Finding his field of study limited his opportunity to explore other technological areas, Elmin decided to join the IP profession in 2014, joining Zacco in 2018 as Partner and European Patent Attorney (EPA).

He now works within the electrical and software engineering fields but his expertise have expanded to cover clients in some of the most exciting areas of emerging technology such as wireless communications, autonomous driving, power engineering and many other software-related technologies. He is also a member of the Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office (epi).

Elmin’s clients range from small start-up companies working on their first big idea to large multi-national corporations with global portfolios. He supports clients and colleagues on a range of patent matters, including drafting and prosecution of patent applications, freedom-to-operate analyses, infringement analyses, validity analyses and oppositions, among other areas. Elmin often acts as a business partner to clients, advising them on the most practical use and commercial viability of their ideas and his expertise in European Patent Prosecution often results in requests for his assistance from clients and IP law firms operating beyond Europe’s borders. He is a well-known expert in the emerging field of computer-implemented inventions and his knowledge of this growth areas has seen him put before the EPO on a number of occasions, as one of the few knowledgeable practitioners in the field.

Elmin also acts as a strategic advisor, supporting a range of companies on the development and implementation of their IP Strategy. This includes helping many to bridge the gap between business functions, resulting in improvements to their ability to identify IP more easily and increasing the value of the IP portfolio and wider business overall.
