Ivy Clarice Estoesta is a counsel in Sterne Kessler’s Mechanical & Design Practice Group and Trademark & Brand Protection Practice. Ivy’s practice focuses on design patents, trademarks, and copyrights. Her legal experience and academic background provide her a multidimensional perspective in securing comprehensive IP rights for an array of clients in various industries, including pharmaceuticals, food and beverages, footwear, electronic devices, and household cleaning products. In 2021, 2020, and 2019, Ivy was recognized as a "Rising Star" by Managing IP.
To date, Ivy has more than 10 years of experience in drafting opinions on trademark registrability and infringement, cease and desist letters, trademark applications and other communications filed with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office and various foreign offices. Currently, her design patent practice includes assisting with the prosecution, enforcement, and strategic portfolio management of design patent rights in the U.S., for some of the most recognizable brands in North America. In addition, she has significant knowledge in foreign design patent prosecution, which she leverages to assist with the strategic prosecution of design patent rights abroad. She serves on the International Trademark Association's (INTA) Designs Committee for the 2022-2023 term and also has experience in Oppositions and Cancellations before the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. Ivy also has experience in assisting with securing and enforcing copyright protection for various works in the textual and visual arts.
Before joining the firm, Ivy attended Wake Forest University (Winston-Salem, NC) as a Joseph G. Gordon Scholar, where she graduated with a B.A. in art history with honors and a minor in chemistry. While in Winston-Salem, Ivy had the unique opportunity to work on research for the treatment of cancer and neurological diseases through the Wake Forest University Chemistry Department and the Wake Forest University Medical School Neuroscience Department, respectively. Ivy earned her J.D. from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law.
