Samuel Niranjan is the founder partner of S&H Partners. An expert in India and US patent practice with a primary focus on search, drafting and prosecution. He assists clients with all manner of prosecution and enforcement actions, on almost two decades of experience in managing his client’s international IP portfolios. Commercial awareness and a technical mindset ensure he is quickly able to identify the core purpose and potential value of his client’s IP rights and requirements.

His expertise spans traditional and emerging technologies including electronics, telecommunications, telematics, software, Internet of Things, automotive, semiconductors, automation, mechanical, medical devices, renewable energy and business-method-related inventions. He advises clients on the protection and enforcement of IP rights, patentability, freedom to operate, invalidity, due diligence, acquisition and market strategies and technology trends, alongside more general IP strategy development and implementation. Samuel can quickly assess the fundamental impact of his client’s IP assets, issues and threats, including their ongoing ability to innovate, their business strategies and acquisition potential.

An understanding of stakeholder perspectives, combined with his extensive IP experience, gives Samuel a distinct advantage in the prosecution of patents related to electronic devices, products and systems, including software systems. He helps clients to develop and leverage their IP, from establishing and maintaining their competitive advantage, to securing investment, or simply to build something that could change the world.

A skilled negotiator and mediator, Samuel also advises clients on business planning, contract drafting, portfolio structuring and partnership agreements, including IP acquisition and transactions, monetisation and commercial viability. His comprehensive knowledge of regulatory environments is integral to his work alongside domestic and international clients in addressing and solving regulatory, legal, and contractual issues across India and beyond.

Committed to the ongoing development of IP and the legal profession, Samuel mentors several start-ups, helping them to understand the legal and IP implications of setting-up, running and growing their business, as well as understanding the importance of securing and enforcing their IP rights.
