After graduating from the University of Stirling with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics, Wendy Crosby trained in the mechanical engineering department of a leading London firm of patent attorneys. Returning to Scotland in 1990, she then qualified as a European and UK patent attorney with Fitzpatricks.
At Fitzpatricks for 16 years, Wendy went on to head their engineering group. She was responsible for managing a team of attorneys, as well as representing clients in the mechanical engineering and oil and gas sectors. During this time she gained significant experience of working before the UK and European Patent Offices. She also gained substantial experience in handling oral proceedings at the European Patent Office, and developed impressive advocacy skills – essential to securing strong patent protection for her clients.
Part of her role at Fitzpatricks involved training courses for new start-up companies and new entrants to the profession. Wendy also developed an interest in registered designs. She established the firm’s design team after the introduction of community registered designs in 2003, becoming one of the first attorneys to file applications.
Wendy joined Murgitroyd in 2006 and was initially based in the Glasgow office before moving to Aberdeen to join the energy team. She worked predominantly for clients in the oil and gas industry, assisting on a broad range of mechanical engineering disciplines, including pipeline inspection and repair, downhole tools and processes, drilling technology, well interventions and pipe coatings.
As Director of Patents, Wendy represents both new and established clients. She has been involved in shaping the IP strategy of some of the fastest growing companies in the oil and gas sector. As well as bringing over 25 years of experience to drafting and prosecuting patent applications, Wendy heads the design group within Murgitroyd. She is one of the most experienced professionals in the field of registered designs, having built up extensive knowledge in the area.
Wendy regularly speaks at events on patent and design topics and has recently completed a series of seminars in Taiwan and Tokyo on design protection. She also leads the company’s growing team of patent administrators, continually seeking new ways to offer quality service to our clients.
Wendy takes an active interest in technology and is a member of the Institute of Physics.
Wendy is Associate Member of the University of Aberdeen Centre for Commercial Law.
