Senem Kayahan is the founder of Senem Kayahan Patent & Consultancy and a European Patent Attorney with more than 15 years of experience in the field of intellectual property. She is qualified as a European Patent Attorney (EQE, 2019) and a Turkish Patent Attorney (2011), with extensive expertise in patent prosecution, technical analysis, and strategic IP advisory.
Dr. Kayahan holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Middle East Technical University (METU) and has a strong technical background in chemistry, life sciences, pharmaceuticals, and materials science. Her technical expertise enables her to handle complex patent matters involving chemical, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology-related inventions, as well as multidisciplinary technologies.
She has significant experience in national and international patent prosecution, including Turkish, European, and PCT applications, as well as European patent validations in Türkiye. Her practice also covers freedom-to-operate (FTO) analyses, patentability and prior-art searches, infringement analyses, and invalidity assessments. In addition, she provides technical opinions and expert support in patent and trademark litigation, assisting legal teams with detailed technical evaluations.
Alongside her professional practice, Dr. Kayahan is actively involved in academia. She serves as a full-time lecturer at Istanbul Health and Technology University and as a part-time lecturer at Middle East Technical University, delivering courses on intellectual property law, patent procedures, and IP management. She is a frequent speaker at IP-related seminars and conferences in Türkiye.
Dr. Kayahan is a member of AIPPI Turkey, the Turkish Patent and Trademark Attorneys’ Association (PEM), and the Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office (EPI).
