Elard Freiherr Schenck zu Schweinsberg joined the firm after studying mechanical engineering at RWTH Aachen University and training as a reserve officer and has been a partner since 2007. His main focus is on the technical fields of mechanical engineering, including manufacturing and production technologies, as well as automotive engineering, materials technology, medical technology, diagnostic equipment and physics. Elard Schenck zu Schweinsberg regularly acts in interdisciplinary teams and frequently collaborates with partners from the Department of Biology & Biotechnology on patent grant and opposition proceedings that concern inventions at the interface between mechanics/physics/mechanical engineering/IT and biology as well as biochemistry.

He has already obtained many successful patent office and court decisions for his clients, including the landmark BGH rulings "Partially Reflective Foil" (BGH X ZR 112/13) and "Wound Treatment Device" (BGH X ZR 161/12). In addition to patent prosecution proceedings, he has many years of extensive experience in the field of opinion work, due diligence as well as in opposition, cancellation, nullity and patent infringement proceedings before the relevant jurisdictions and offices such as the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA), the European Patent Office (EPO), the Federal Patent Court (BPatG), the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) as well as the Higher Regional (OLG) and Regional Courts (LG). Elard Schenck zu Schweinsberg lectures on IP topics in Germany and abroad and advises start-ups, universities, SMEs and leading global companies on intellectual property issues. Elard was a member of the examination board for patent attorneys for many years.
