Mohamed Adel

Mohamed Adel is the Country Manager of UTPS Egypt and Head of Patents, with more than fifteen years of experience advising clients on patent protection, intellectual property litigation, commercial IP strategy, and regulatory matters across the MENA region. He is a Registered and Licensed IP Agent and an Appellate Lawyer admitted before the Egyptian Bar Association.

His practice focuses on patent filing and prosecution, industrial design protection, plant variety rights, portfolio management, annuities, renewals, and IP due diligence. He also advises clients on patentability, freedom-to operate assessments, IP commercialization, enforcement, infringement and validity proceedings, oppositions, cancellations, anti-counterfeiting, and online brand protection.

Mohamed regularly supports clients operating in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, engineering, chemical, agricultural, and life sciences sectors. His experience also covers regulatory compliance, data exclusivity, pharmaceutical registration strategies, and related litigation.

Throughout his career, he has led intellectual property operations for major regional and international 
organizations in Egypt and the GCC, managed high-volume patent portfolios, coordinated with patent offices and regulatory authorities, and advised on legislative and policy developments affecting IP rights.

• Pharmaceutical patent prosecution Advised a leading multinational pharmaceutical company as lead Egyptian patent counsel on the national-phase entry and prosecution of a strategically important PCT application. I supervised the review of the international application, Arabic translation, filing formalities and payment of examination fees within the applicable statutory period. Matter value: Not applicable; the commercial value of the underlying pharmaceutical technology is confidential. • Security and anti-counterfeiting technology Advised an international security-technology company, in my capacity as Head of Patents, on obtaining Egyptian patent protection for authentication and anti-counterfeiting technology. I supervised the PCT national-phase filing, reviewed the technical and documentary requirements and coordinated prosecution before the Egyptian Patent Office. • Chemicals and advanced materials Acted as lead Egyptian patent counsel for a major international chemicals and advanced-materials company in connection with the national phase entry of an international patent application. My role included reviewing the filing strategy, coordinating Arabic translation and formal documentation, and managing statutory Patent Office deadlines. • Transport and energy technology Advised an international transport and energy-technology company on entering the Egyptian national phase of a PCT application. As Head of Patents, I supervised the local filing strategy, translation, documentary formalities and coordination with the international instructing team.
