Hannes Obex was admitted to the bar in 2012 and has been a certified specialist lawyer for intellectual property law since 2017. Before joining VOSSIUS as a counsel in August 2018, he worked as a Senior Associate in a Düsseldorf boutique law firm specializing in intellectual property law.

Mr. Obex advises and represents national and international clients, both in and out of court, in patent law and in other areas of intellectual property law. This includes the enforcement of court decisions, obtaining interim injunctions, proceedings at trade fairs, customs seizure proceedings and representation in patent nullity proceedings as well as the coordination of cross-border patent litigation.

One focus of Mr. Obex's activities is in the field of life science and in particular in the field of medical devices. In addition, he has been involved in extensive proceedings in the field of mobile communications relating to both standard essential and implementation patents. His experience also includes advising and representing an international company in the field of consumer electronics in patent matters as well as in trademark and design law issues, providing comprehensive support to a company in the field of car body treatment in patent law issues, representing clients in patents in the field of mechanics and advising clients in competition law matters.

Mr. Obex studied law at the Westfälische-Wilhelms-Universität in Münster and passed his first state examination there. During this time, he obtained an additional qualifaction in information, telecommunications and media law. Subsequently, he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Information, Telecommunications and Media Law of the University of Münster at the chair of Prof. Thomas Hoeren. He completed his legal clerkship in the district of the Higher Regional Court of Düsseldorf. During this time he worked in patent law for a large German law firm, an international law firm and a boutique law firm and worked in New Zealand for three months. After passing the second state examination in 2012 and in parallel to his legal work, he obtained the title of LL.M. in the Master's programme "Intellectual Property" from the University of Düsseldorf in 2013.

Mr. Obex is a member of the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (GRUR), the Licensing Executives Society (LES) and the German Bar Association (DAV).
