Overview

Mathys & Squire is a well-established UK IP firm for IP protection and portfolio management. The firm is experienced in advising on IP issues in sectors such as pharmaceutical, biotechnology, IT and engineering. It has evolved over the years, putting together a team for IP disputes and opening offices in other European jurisdictions such as France and Germany. The firm also offers IP commercialisation advice thanks to its acquisition of Coller IP in 2017.

Its key European patent attorneys are Jane Clark, Alan MacDougall, Hazel Ford, Martin MacLean, Paul Cozens, and Christopher Hamer. MacDougall heads the firm’s Cambridge office while Cozens and Hamer have court litigation qualifications.

The firm’s trade mark practice is led by Helen Cawley, who is supported by senior trade mark practitioners such as Margaret Arnott and Gary Johnston. Arnott is also qualified as a solicitor and leads the firm’s litigation practice. Johnston heads the firm’s Manchester office. Rebecca Tew, who heads the firm’s Midlands office, is another notable trade mark attorney in the firm.
