International firm Sidley Austin has offices in Los Angeles, Palo Alto, San Francisco, and Century City. This year the firm earns a highly recommended patent litigation ranking in California for its group of trial-ready attorneys active in the tech and life sciences sectors.

Key patent practitioners of the firm include Michael Bettinger and Sam Tiu. Bettinger is head of the firm’s West Coast IP litigation practice group and focuses on patent litigation and appeals for clients in the tech industry.

The firm also has a significant IP transactions practice supported in part by California practitioners Joshua Hofheimer and Glenn Nash. Nash is global co-chair of the firm’s technology and IP transactions group and co-chair of the technology industry group.

Sidley Austin won the US Appellate Firm of the Year award from Managing IP in 2021.

The firm recently led a matter for Amgen subsidiary Immunex in one of the earliest disputes under the Biologics Price Competition and Innovation Act. After a two-week trial, Amgen’s patent was upheld and three Sandoz subsidiaries were prevented from marketing a biosimilar version of the client’s drug Enbrel.

Sidley also secured a victory in the ITC for client LONGi Solar Technology and affiliated companies in a patent case involving solar cell passivation technology.
