Bartosz Krakowiak is a Polish patent and trademark attorney, European patent attorney and professional representative before the EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). He joined POLSERVICE in 2002; between 2006 and 2018 he was deputy manager of the trademark department and leader of the legal team, and in December 2018 he took up a position on the firm’s Management Board.
Mr Krakowiak specialises in trademark and design registration, maintenance, licensing and protection, as well as unfair competition matters, including litigation and anti-counterfeiting actions. He is responsible for the Polish trademark portfolios of some of the world’s leading companies from all areas of business and also participates in patent-related disputes. He represents clients before the Polish Patent Office, EUIPO and the administrative, civil (IP) and arbitration courts. He also cooperates with customs, prosecution and enforcement authorities.
Since 2012, Mr Krakowiak has been president of the Polish National Group of the Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI); in 2022 he was elected to the AIPPI Nominating Committee and he is also a longtime member of the AIPPI Standing Committee – Trademarks. In 2019-2021, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the International Trademark Association (INTA); he is a current member of the INTA Legislation and Regulation Committee – Europe and Central Asia Sub-committee (which he chaired in 2016-2019); previously, he chaired the INTA Anti-counterfeiting Committee (2014-2015) and its EU Sub-committee (2012-2013); in 2016 he was honoured with the INTA Volunteer Service Award for the Advancement of Trademark Law. Mr Krakowiak also serves on the ECTA Anti-counterfeiting Committee (since 2024 as the committee’s vice chair) and the ECTA EUIPO-Link Committee. He is one of the founding members and the first chairman of the Audit Committee of the Polish Anti-Counterfeiting Association (PACA). He is also vice chair of the Legislation Committee of the Polish Chamber of Patent Attorneys and member of the Chamber’s special committees on the IP Law reform and on the UPC; in 2018 he was honoured with the Chamber’s Badge of Merit.
In 2022, Mr Krakowiak was awarded by the President of the Republic of Poland with the Bronze Cross of Merit (a Polish civil state distinction) for his achievements in promoting IP issues.
In October 2024, when the Polish Patent Office’s Advisory Panel on Quality was established, Mr Krakowiak was elected its chairman, responsible for coordination of the Panel’s work.
Mr Krakowiak is a frequent speaker and moderator at conferences and seminars in Poland and worldwide. He lectures to trainee patent and trademark attorneys, particularly on enforcement of IP rights, and is also a guest lecturer at the Kozminski University in Warsaw and the Academy of European Law (ERA) in Trier. He is an author of several IP law related publications.
Mr Krakowiak graduated in law (summa cum laude) from the University of Warsaw. He also completed postgraduate studies in IP law at the University of Warsaw and at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, and a special module on Community trademarks (Magister Lucentinus) at the University of Alicante.
