Bernard Platteau is an associate at BomhardIP. He is involved in all kinds of trade mark and design proceedings before the EUIPO, including absolute grounds refusals, oppositions, and cancellations.
He advises in particular on complex cases involving non-traditional trade marks, marks with a reputation, as well as on bad faith cases. He also handles multijurisdictional trade mark clearance and portfolio management.
Bernard first gained experience in IP working in a European IP law boutique in Belgium. Following that he joined the EUIPO for a one-year traineeship as part of the Pan-European Seal Programme in 2016, working as a trade mark examiner at the EUIPO Operations Department. He has been at BomhardIP since June 2019.
Bernard studied at Brussels University and holds a Master of Laws degree. He has an LL.M. in Intellectual Property and ICT from the KU Leuven. In 2023, Bernard qualified as an Irish Trade Mark Attorney.
Born and raised in Brussels, he is fluent in French, Dutch, and English, and has good knowledge of German and Spanish.
