Graham advises a global client base, including major pharmaceutical companies in the US and Europe, as well as SMEs across the UK, Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, and the Netherlands. His expertise covers patent drafting and prosecution for antibodies and immunomodulatory agents, advanced therapies such as gene and cell therapies, vaccines, and personalised medicine. Graham also represents clients in European Patent Office (EPO) oppositions and appeals, including high-profile cases such as those concerning the blockbuster antibody drug Opdivo. He has significant experience coordinating contentious EPO proceedings alongside parallel litigation in the UK, Germany, and beyond.
Graham has a strong understanding of the commercial landscape, having been seconded to Circassia during its startup phase. This experience, combined with his work for other SMEs, gives him insight into the intellectual property (IP) needs of growing businesses. He advises on global patent portfolio management, freedom to operate, and due diligence, supporting clients through fundraising rounds, licensing deals, collaborations, acquisitions, strategic partnerships, and IPOs, including IO Biotech’s successful NASDAQ listing.
Graham also leads J A Kemp’s team handling Supplementary Protection Certificates (SPCs) and regulatory matters for pharmaceutical and agrochemical products, particularly biologics. He has extensive experience advising on patent term extension strategies worldwide and has coordinated complex SPC filings and prosecutions across the EU/EEA, including involvement in court-level appeals in multiple jurisdictions.
Graham studied Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry at Oxford University, including research on the immunology of diabetes at Leiden University. He remained in Oxford for his PhD in immunology under Professor Richard Cornall at the Nuffield Department of Medicine, working with leading immunologists including Professor Sir John Bell and Professor Chris Goodnow.
