Guillermo Menéndez’s professional practice at TRBL Services’ Intellectual Property department involves patent drafting, patent prosecution, and opinion work. Previously, Dr. Menéndez worked as a patent attorney for intellectual property agencies in Madrid, Spain (2015-2023) and as a technical adviser for a law firm in Bangkok, Thailand (2014).

His scientific experience includes multidisciplinary projects in academic research centres in Spain, the United States, Italy and the United Kingdom. At the Instituto Nacional del Carbón (INCAR-CSIC) in Oviedo, Spain (2000-2001), Dr. Menéndez studied a process for the synthesis of micro and nanocomposites of zirconia toughened alumina starting from organometallic precursors. His research at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, California (2001-2003) focused on the preparation and characterisation of freeze-dried hydroxyapatite scaffolds. At the Istituto di Ricerca San Raffaele in Milan, Italy (2005), Dr. Menéndez collaborated in the determination of novel protein regulators of Prep1-Pbx1 transcriptional activity. His PhD project at Imperial College London, United Kingdom (2006-2011), in collaboration with Cancer Research UK London Research Institute (CRUK-LRI), involved the development, using soft lithography techniques, of microfluidic systems for the compartmentalised culture of motor and sensory neurons. In these systems, Dr. Menéndez studied the role of the small GTPase Rab7 on the vesicular axonal retrograde transport mechanism and its interaction with the signalling cascade initiated by axonally applied neurotrophins (NGF, BDNF).

Additionally, Dr. Menéndez worked in the technical support department of Illumina, Inc. in Cambridge, United Kingdom (2012-2013) as a specialist in high-throughput sequencing systems (“next-generation sequencing”)

Dr. Menéndez is a native Spanish speaker and is fluent in English and Italian.
