Mathias Ricker is one of the founding partners of law firm WALLINGER RICKER SCHLOTTER TOSTMANN. He is part of the chemistry/pharmaceutical IP practice group, which has in total five partners by now.
Before co-founding WALLINGER RICKER SCHLOTTER TOSTMANN, Mathias was a partner with Jones Day, also acting as European IP coordinator. He holds a PhD in chemistry and has been admitted as a German patent attorney since 1994 and as a European patent attorney since 1995.
Mathias studied chemistry at the University of Frankfurt and obtained his PhD from the Max-Planck-Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz. In 1990/1991, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California in Santa Barbara (USA).
Mathias has been active in the IP field since 1991. His activities have and still do focus on the areas of chemistry, pharmaceuticals and medical devices. He is active in counselling domestic and foreign clients in all areas of patent matters. In the last couple of years, Mathias’ activities concentrated in the representation of clients in opposition and nullity proceedings before the European Patent Office (EPO) and the Federal Patent Court, as well as in infringement proceedings – in many instances together with WALLINGER RICKER SCHLOTTER TOSTMANN’s attorneys at law.
Among other things, he recently represented Merz Pharma GmbH in various oppositions and appeals with Allergan in the area of dermal fillers and muscle relaxants /BOTOX® as well as Eastman Chemicals in the area of “green” polycarbocylic acids for the preparation of polyesters against Synvina/Avantium. Significant present representations include Archroma IP GmbH (the former paper and textile business of Clariant), Autoneum, Bridgestone/Firestone, Eastman Chemicals, Fresenius Medical Care AG, International Paper, Merck AG Darmstadt, Merit Medical Systems, Merz Pharma GmbH, Nippon Shokubai, Verbio AG and ZTE Corporation.
