Sabine Dethof is a highly experienced patent litigator and Salaried Partner at HEUKING in Düsseldorf. As a Certified Specialist Lawyer in Intellectual Property Law (Fachanwältin für Gewerblichen Rechtsschutz), she brings nearly 20 years of expertise in patent law to her practice. Over the course of her career, Sabine has handled numerous contentious proceedings across a wide range of technical fields. Her extensive experience covers several industries, with particular strengths in mechanical engineering, automotive, semiconductors, and medical devices.
Sabine is a registered representative before the Unified Patent Court (UPC) and has successfully represented clients in UPC proceedings. She is also among the few attorneys with specialized experience in patent nullity proceedings before the German Federal Patent Court (Bundespatentgericht) and the Federal Court of Justice (Bundesgerichtshof).
Her expertise in patent law has been recognized by several leading publications, including Handelsblatt/Best Lawyers, IAM Patent 1000, and Legal 500. In 2025, she was named “Patent Star” Germany by IP Stars. Sabine is fluent in German, English, and Spanish.
Sabine’s focus on intellectual property law began during her studies at the University of Göttingen and the University of Salamanca, Spain. She earned her PhD from the University of Göttingen, specializing in antitrust and telecommunications law. After completing her legal traineeship at the Higher Regional Court of Wuppertal, Sabine joined the patent law team at HEUKING in 2007.
