Thomas Kretschmer has extensive experience in the field of intellectual property protection in various areas of the ICT industry (Information and Communication Technologies). His career as a patent attorney is based on many years of experience in IP departments of large software and computer companies. His particular technical specialties include modern technologies in the ICT environment, such as cryptography, IoT, blockchain and artificial intelligence.

For many years he managed global patent portfolios of international companies. He holds a master’s degree in Intellectual Property Law & Management (MIPLM), LL.M. from the Centre d’Etudes Internationales de la Propriété Industrielle (CEIPI) and a postgraduate diploma in copyright law from King’s College in London.

As Vice Chairman of the AIPPI standing Committee for Information Technology and Internet, he focuses on new ICT technologies, including computer hardware and software, networking, cryptography, databases and big data, digital electronics and devices, blockchain and artificial intelligence.

He joined IPrime in February 2019 as a specialist in computer-implemented inventions and ICT technologies.

For the 2019 Colloquium in Turin on “IP Protection of Artificial Intelligence”, he contributed to the “AIPLA/AIPPI/FICPI AI Colloquium Primer (also referred to as “The Patent Primer”) and authored an article on software innovations and their protectability (“Software-Innovationen und deren Schutzfähigkeit”) which is soon to be published in the KMU-Magazin, a journal targeted at SMEs.
