The Spanish IP firm, ABG Intellectual Property, now has 21 European Patent Attorneys following the recent announcement that two of its specialists have successfully passed the European Qualifying Examination (EQE). Engineers, Inés García Baquero and Juan Manuel Soto, are the latest experts in the team to pass these demanding tests which certify them as representatives before the European Patent Office (EPO) for all types of procedures: from the filing of patent applications to participation in oppositions, among other prosecutions.
Both professionals have been part of the staff of ABG IP for several years. Besides having the largest team of European Patent Attorneys in Spain, ABG IP stands out in view of the high profile of its more than 70 professionals distributed throughout its offices located in Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao and Valencia, from where they successfully represent entities from all over the world, including the USA, Japan, Korea and China, before the EPO and the European Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). The credentials of its staff include 19 PhD holders in different areas of science and technology, 11 Spanish Patent and Trademarks Agents, 2 representatives before the Unified Patent Court, 2 former EPO examiners, 1 former EUIPO examiner and 1 registered technology transfer professional.
In an increasingly competitive sector such as IP protection, ABG Intellectual Property has committed itself to the training of specialists from the moment of joining the company. As attested, one of the characteristics of ABG IP’s company culture is to provide a permanent learning environment that positions its experts in different technical areas among the elite of the industrial property sector.
Inés García and Juan Manuel Soto, who provide services for the protection of inventions in the areas of Engineering & Physics and Information Technology and Telecommunications ICTs, are proof of said culture. Inés joined ABG in 2018 followed by Juan Manuel three years later. During this time, they have made tremendous headway in knowledge related to patent prosecution, application drafting, report preparation and patentability and freedom-to-operate searches, mainly in the area of IT, telecommunications, physics, fintech and medtech. Furthermore, in 2022 Juan Manuel also qualified as a Spanish Patent and Trademark Agent, a title that certifies him as a representative before the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office. The successful attainment of the qualification as European Patent Attorneys is one of the major milestones in the professional career of these two engineers.
